Term 1
At the beginning of 2nd grade, students will use their knowledge of rhythm and melody to explore improvisation. Students will improvise their own rhythmic patterns and melodies on percussion instruments. Students will also learn about form by performing compositions in AB and ABA form.
Term 3
Second grade students will get the opportunity to create and perform music to accompany Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are". This will be an in-class performance that will use songs, percussion instruments and movement to illustrate the story.
Term 4
In term 4, 2nd grade students will finish learning their new concepts for the year, which include half notes and the pitch "la". They will do this by singing songs, speaking rhythm syllables, moving to different rhythmic patterns and playing instruments and games.
Term 5
Term 5 is all about the concert! We will be presenting "We're Going On a Bear Hunt", complete with narration, pictures, movement, instruments and voices. Come join us on May 30!
