Term 1
In 4th grade, students put all the musical skills they've learned in the first program together, beginning with an in-depth exploration of Orff arrangements. Orff arrangements are performed by percussion ensembles (like in our very own percussion ensemble at CDS!) and they challenge students to read and perform multiple-part music with good technique and ensemble skill. This term will allow us to learn and perform an Orff ensemble piece as a whole class.
Term 3
In term 3, students continue their recorder practice from last year, combining their recorder skills with percussion instruments to create larger pieces and hone their ensemble skills by performing Orff ensemble pieces of increasing difficulty.
Term 4
In term 4, 4th graders have been learning the ukulele, as well as the basic difference between major and minor tonalities. Focus has been on holding and strumming the ukulele properly, as well as fingering chords and individual notes.
Term 5
Term 5 is all about the concert! We will be presenting "We're Going On a Bear Hunt", complete with narration, pictures, movement, instruments and voices. Come join us on May 30!
Grade 4 is creating their own arrangements of songs with ukulele and rhythmic ostinati.
