Term 1
In 3rd grade, students begin the year by working on their singing. Students will learn to sing rounds and canons, identify rounds and canons, and differentiate those forms from AB form. Students will perform rounds using body percussion, percussion instruments and their voices. This is an important step towards singing in parts independently!
Term 3
In term 3, students begin to study the recorder. They will learn notes G, E, A and B and be able to read music using those notes and rhythms which are familiar to them. They will also use their recorder and percussion skills to create larger compositions as a class, as well as perform larger Orff ensemble pieces.
Term 4
In term 4, 3rd graders have been learning about music of different world cultures through learning and performing folk songs from the United States, West Africa and China. They have been learning syncopated rhythms and the pentatonic scale through these songs.
Term 5
Term 5 is all about the concert! We will be presenting "We're Going On a Bear Hunt", complete with narration, pictures, movement, instruments and voices. Come join us on May 30!
